You choose how much it reads

  • Totals and trends only It can tell you that March was your hardest month and who came up most often. It cannot quote a word of what you wrote, and it cannot tell you what it makes of any one person.
  • Short excerpts from entries It can quote the opening of an entry when it answers you — enough to show you where something came from, not the whole page.
  • Full entry text It can read entries end to end. Choose this only for an assistant you would be comfortable handing the notebook to.

You can ask the assistant you already use about your own journal, without pasting your journal into it. It can look things up. It can never write anything down.

It searches your entries, finds the six that mention him, and answers from what you actually wrote — in a chat where you never pasted a single line of it.

What you can do

Choose how much it may read
You pick one of the three above when you connect it. It applies to every answer, not just the first.
See how much it has read
How many entries it was given in the last 30 days, and on which days. A sudden spike is the thing to look for.
Stop it
From Settings, or from the link in the email — that one works without signing in, in case the session it was connected from was not yours.
Connect more than one
Each keeps its own limit and its own history. Stopping one leaves the others alone.

How It Works

Copy the address

Connecting an AI assistant is a Pensio Pro feature. Open Settings → Connected apps → Connect an AI assistant: it shows one address, ending in /mcp, with a Copy button.

Add it in your assistant

The page has each assistant's own steps. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the address, and let it register itself.

Approve it on Pensio

Your assistant opens a Pensio screen that names it and asks how much it may read: totals only, short excerpts, or full entries. Nothing is shared until you press Connect it.

Ask your journal anything

Your assistant can now read and search your entries to answer questions grounded in your own words — "what have I been feeling this month?", "what did I write about this project?", and more.

Can Claude read my journal?
Yes. Add Pensio as a custom connector in Claude, approve a screen that says how much it may read, and it can search and quote your entries from then on. It is a Pensio Pro feature, and it is read-only — Claude can never write, edit or delete anything.
Can ChatGPT read my journal?
It needs ChatGPT Plus or above with Developer Mode turned on — neither ChatGPT Free nor ChatGPT Go can add a custom connector at all, which is an OpenAI limit rather than a Pensio one. Pensio walks through the setup, including where the Developer Mode switch has moved to. Its steps are written from OpenAI's documentation, not from a connection we have made ourselves.
Can I connect Gemini to my journal?
Not from the Gemini app. Google offers custom MCP connections in Gemini Enterprise, where a team administrator adds them for a whole workspace — there is no equivalent for a personal account. What works today instead: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Visual Studio Code.
Do I need a paid plan for this?
On Pensio, yes — connecting an assistant is part of Pensio Pro. On the assistant's side it depends on the assistant, and each one's steps say what its own plan needs. ChatGPT, for one, needs Plus or above with Developer Mode on; ChatGPT Go is a paid plan and still cannot, which catches people out.
Can an AI assistant change or delete my entries?
No, and it is not a setting you could get wrong. Read-only is enforced in the database: a connection that could write is a row Pensio refuses to store. The assistant can look things up and quote them back, and that is all.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol — an open standard for letting an AI assistant read from a source you choose. Pensio speaks it over Streamable HTTP and registers your assistant automatically, so connecting means pasting one address rather than copying a client ID and a secret.
Can I use this without my writing leaving my computer?
Not today. Your journal is kept on Pensio's servers, and a connected assistant reads it from there, then sends what it reads to its own model. Running Pensio on your own computer is on the roadmap.
Your entries leave Pensio and reach your assistant's company
That is the whole trade. What it reads is handled under their terms, not ours, and we cannot take it back for you. It is why this is off until you turn it on, and why you can stop it in one click.
It can never write, edit or delete anything
Not a promise about how it behaves — the database refuses to store a connection that could.
Drafts never reach it, not even by name
Unfinished writing is the least finished thing you have. It stays out of searches, out of the entries linked to others, and cannot be opened even if something knows its address.
What you wrote about another person never leaves, at any setting
The notes on someone's page are about a person who never agreed to any of this and cannot stop it. They do not cross at the highest setting either, and they cannot be searched.
It is paused if it reads too much in one hour
500 entries, then it waits for the next hour. Every single request can be within its limits and still add up to a copy of your journal by evening.
We record how much it read, never which entries
A list of which entries an assistant read would be a map of what you have been dwelling on — and keeping one to reassure you would create exactly the thing this is built to protect. Counts are kept 90 days, then dropped.
